Best SEO Tools For 2012

SEO Tools

SEO, you either love it, hate it or somewhere in between. If you do decide to implement search engine optimization as part of your inbound marketing campaign, you should know that some of the factors required, among other things, are keyword research, site usability and structure, and the one that is often overlooked at, monitoring your progress. There is no point of implementing the best SEO practices, making use of SEO plugins, writing awesome content that provides value to your visitors, and not see how your efforts are doing.
Something to think about: SEO is a competition. You have to be more popular and more relevant than your competitors to succeed (exclude friends, family members and your community). Keep it clean, and remember to take action. Taking action in itself is already a competitive advantage, over those who don’t.
Anyway, if you are providing SEO services, thinking of, or simply a DIY SEO practitioner, then this is where all the things may start to get a bit tedious. Conducting proper keyword research, analyzing competition, track backlinks, checking for broken links, checking your ranks progress and more, are simply not an easy task to do without the help of some tools, whose purpose is just that, to save you time and make your tasks a bit easier.
With that said, the SEO tools I mention here are by all means not the only ones that are available. There are literally tons of them and some work well, while others don’t. Difficult to keep track on all of them so, I am limiting this list to those that I have used and believe that are sufficient to get you started. Post is rather long..

Best Free SEO Tools

Keyword Research, Webmaster Tools And Linkbuilding

Google SEO Tools: You may not be aware of it, but Google has probably the widest array of tools under your disposal. Take the AdWords Keyword Tool for example. What is there to say about this tool? This is probably one of the most “talked about” keyword tool on the internet. There are tons of tutorials and tips out there on how to use it properly. Google’s keyword tool is great, but one drawback is that you can not use it to analyze competition. There is probably some misconception about the “competition” column that you see in their results, which you should know, is about the “advertisers” competition for that particular keyword, rather than competing websites. This data is good to pinpoint saturated niches for example.
So aside from Google’s keyword tool, you also have YouTube keyword tool, Google Insights (great for product search), Google Webmaster Tools (Quick Start Center), Google Analytics, Google Page Speed Online, and perhaps one that you are not aware of, Google’s Real Time Insights Finder – Marketing Tool (take it for a test drive).
Google Insights Marketing Tool
Here are some guides for you (in case you are interested)
Tynt SEO: Found out about this tool from Ana’s post on MySEOCommunity.com. The post essentially teaches you how to take advantage and defend yourself from “people who copy” your content. There is really not much of a problem when someone copies an excerpt of your content and attributes a link to the original source. The problem is when they don’t give you the proper attribution.
Tynt SEO essentially inserts a piece of code on every single page (not just content) of your site, and every time your text or images gets copied, Tynt adds automatically an attribution link, back to where your content was copied from. It is really an awesome tool and after using it only for 7 days, I can see already that it appears to paying off. Remember that not all links carry the same weight, but it this case, whether or not the link is of authority, it still links back to you, something that Matt Cutts says, it is better than “nothing”.
What I like best about Tynt? Not only it does what it says it does, you also get some real cool SEO reports (e.g., how many copied your content and linked back to you – forced via Tynt), and best of all, It is free :) .
Want to see how it works? Try copying any text (like a paragraph) from here and paste it on Word.
Tynt SEO Tools
SEMRush: From the developers of the popular SEO Quake, SEMRush is an advance keywords/competition research software that essentially let’s you see how your site (or any other), is doing in Google search engine rankings (or Bing), in addition to many other related advanced search engine marketing techniques. With its huge database of keywords, you will find some of the most popular (including hidden keywords), most searched for terms, and also highly competitive and expensive keywords. The free version is fully workable and is only limited to 10 queries/day and 10 results per query. Give it a try as you may not need anything else than what is provided on the free version. BTW, free is free and not a trial.

Page Speed/Website Audit

Microsoft SEO ToolKit: This probably one of the most powerful and advanced tools I have in my arsenal, and it is 100% free (no paid version). With this SEO Toolkit, you review your website, see the results and make the necessary changes the tool recommends. The SEO Toolkit with its detailed analysis and search engine friendly suggestions helps improve the relevance of your website in search results right away. It checks for broken links, missing tags, missing alt tags, larger scripts, and other SEO violations. I won’t be going into more details here, as I prefer to direct you to a post I’ve written way back, about this free and awesome SEO tool from Microsoft. So awesome, they even publicize it like this (note Google):
Microsoft SEO Toolkit
GTMetrics: Quickly becoming one of my favorite tools to analyze and test page speed online. With GTMetrix, you can check Google Page Speed and Yahoo YSlow score of any web site. This information is very useful, especially since page loading time is one of many factors used by Google to determine rankings. When checking your site or any other site on GTMetrics, you are given a grade (ideal would be A). If your website page loading time is more than four seconds, or have a low Page Speed/YSlow grade (C or lower), it may mean that your site requires some tweaking. GTmetrix will provide detailed explanations of what is wrong with your site and what you can do to improve it. This information is very helpful to correct all the flaws in your current WordPress theme.
Here’s how my site is performing yesterday (4,92s – but needs some more work; I guess).
GTMetrix SEO Tools
Other cool page speed checkers, include – PingDom and WebPageTest.
SEO Doctor: A FireFox Addon, it is a great “flyby” and simple tool, made with both beginners and experienced SEOs in mind. It’s scoring system and recommendations are based on official SEO documents, namely Google Webmaster guidelines, Google Image guidelines and Google SEO starter guide as well as Vladimir Prelovac’s (developer) own experience.
Main features of SEO Doctor are:
  • Points out to potential problems and assigns a score for your pages based on currently accepted SEO methodology
  • Shows link structure and helps track page rank flow for your pages
  • Detects and warns you about pages not indexable by search engines using most comprehensive methods available in any tool
  • One-click access to most popular SEO tools allows you to additionally inspect a site
Look at that! My site score a perfect 100%, woot. Run it and see what score you got.

SEO Rank Checker

CuteRank: Remember, SEO requires a lot of work and one of them is to monitor your progress. This free keyword rank checker (software) is a desktop app, designed to automatically check your keyword positions and track their performance (keeps history) on multiple search engines. Instead of trying to figure out what position your are in, just insert multiple keywords you are checking for, or let CuteRank automatically detect keywords for you, and let it do its magic. One thing I really like about this app is that it returns results in near “real time”. This really is a time saver and the free version has absolutely no catch. It is free for life and safe to use. The only limitations of the free version is that you can only check your rankings for one domain at a time, and you can not create reports with your own brand (not good if you are tracking for clients). Such limitations are easily lifted with the premium version (if you are interested). Totally recommended and for now, the only one I really use. It is quite accurate :) .
CuteRank SEO Rank Checker

Other SEO Tools (Premium)

As I mentioned earlier, Google AdWords Keyword tool, is a great resource for “finding keywords”. Once you find those keywords, the next thing would be to analyze competing websites that are also targeting for those same keywords. While there are many ways you can achieve this, I will provide you with two options for now. First is to use Prelovac’s clever way of doing keyword research (really good). The other option is to use LongTailPro.
LongTailPro is a paid software that does all the hard work for you. It helps you find keywords and available domains (good for creating niche sites), analyze competition and also includes a rank checker to monitor your progress. I have been using LongTailPro (as an alternative to MS) to create niche websites, and I am pretty satisfied with the results. For now, I just wanted you to know about this tool and stay tuned for an in-depth review soon. In case you can’t wait, head over there to find out more (watch the demo video).
That’s it! I know that there a lot more and probably I will have to write a “part 2” on a later stage. In addition to some other SEO Tools that I have recommended on 2011 (still good), I am convinced that for now, these will suffice. Obviously, if you really have a very cool and top notch SEO tool you can recommend, please do let me know about it. I may update this post or put it in the next one (and with an attribute to you, lol).

Seo Tips and Tricks 2012 SEO Tips for Google

Seo Tips Seo Tips and Tricks SEO for GoogleSEO TIPS and Tricks 2012

The present day brings many the dilemma of the search engines changing their algorithm with the likes of such updates as Panda. That said we must remember for all websites that fresh, highly relevant content is key to a websites success. Over the Years I have experienced many changes in search which often mean even web optimisers themselves are left somewhat dumbfounded by SERPS.
It really is now about staying ahead of the game in SEO and reading what each “expert” in the field has to say about optimisation techniques that will improve your websites ranking. The important thing to remember is as with any aspect of the online world to try and disseminate what’s relatively hear say and what actually works.

SEO Tips for Google

There are I think a number of SEO Tips that will always remain true despite algorithmic changes:
1) Content is King – Let’s face it if your website content does not reflect in a relevant way what your business is there is really little chance of it succeeding in terms of the search engines.
2) Localisation counts – It’s now widely know that the likes of Google are putting greater focus on highly contextual and localised results. So, as always if you want to target the UK – Host in the UK, have a UK IP and to target local results be mindful about geographic areas with your keyword research.
3) Domain Name Domination – If you really really want to rank for a very generic phrase or indeed have any chance of reaching a good rank then the domain name is often key. Make certain where at all possible that the domain name contains the keyword(s) that you would like to rank for.
4)Keyword Research – Many use tools like Word-tracker and Keyword Discovery or Google itself  to find those rich keywords that will bring traffic to a website. Fine, but think more about Google Instant for example. Whilst on the subject of website traffic, is it converting traffic? THINK about what will convert.
5) Back-links- Yep, everyone wants those all-important back-links. Some pay for them ( No really??) Let’s face it the value of someone who is RELEVANT in your sector linking to you will always remain high despite how the algorithmic changes.
6) Your website code counts – If the coding on your website isn’t up to scratch then how do you honestly expect a search engine to interpret it and then magically come up with the results you wanted to see in search.
7)Social Media- There is no escaping the rise of Twitter etc. But be aware, you NEED a strategy for social media to work for you and your business. Think about what angle your tweets will be coming from, how you may deal with customers who directly criticise your service online. Social Media should now ALWAYS be incorporated into any serious online marketing campaign.
8)Images- People are now much more visually focused when it comes to the information they are presented with online. With the arrival of the Ipad, smart phones and tablet devices we can expect that many will consider a websites value by the way in which it looks. YES Google can interpret images and read them, so make sure everything is labeled up correctly.
9) I Have just mentioned mobile devices. Which of course are now ever more prevalent in today’s society. Think about optimising your website for mobile viewing. How does it look on an IPhone? Or a Blackberry?
10) Remember most importantly to enjoy the experience of optimising a website. The growth in visitors will surely spur you on to keep going. But there WILL be dull days, where you think all that work you put into the website has been in vain. Don’t give up– press on!

The Best SEO Practices and Tips 2012

best seo practices 2012

SEO, or search engine optimization has been a much discussed and debated topic. IMO, I think it will continue that way, for as long as there are search engines and most importantly when users continue to make use of them. There are studies all over the place, where results indicate that when someone is looking for something, they start generally by “searching for whatever it is” online. SEO is not dead as many would like you to believe, but it is constantly changing and as new factors come into play, others go. In addition, SEO is just a piece of the puzzle, now included in a much larger scale called “inbound marketing” (more on that later).

Best SEO Practices For 2012

As I mentioned before, the best SEO Practices have not really change that much, as the most important ranking factors pretty much remained unchanged. At its basics, you need to know that there are only two essential elements for good SEO, on-page and off-page. On-page SEO are those that you as a publisher/webmaster can control directly, while off-page SEO essentially relies on user behavior, social engagements, visitors, and other publishers, although there are some cases where you too can control part of it.
Now and understandably, you might be a complete newbie to this whole SEO thing. If that is the case, I strongly suggests you to read the following, before anything else. While these material may have been published for a while now, they all provide a lot of information that are valuable. It will definitely introduce you to the basic concepts of content optimization for search engines and a bit more :) .
SEO-Best-Practices-2012

On-Page SEO Ranking Factors and Important Elements

Essentially, you will need to address the following – Content, Code and Site Architecture. Let’s put aside the need for quality content as that is the only one that is a given.

Best On-Page SEO Practices For…

Content Creation
Quality content is really what you should aim for, as this is what it takes to enhance or improve users experience. I won’t be discussing posting frequency as it depends a lot on your topic or niche and how often you can generate good content. If you ask me, it is way better to post a great article 2 –3 times a week than shooting for useless and low quality daily content. That won’t cut it. You should know however that search engines, and in particular Google, is now looking for “fresh”  content. Obviously, if you are talking about something that is “hot” or trending , the more updated the information is, the better. Otherwise, find a frequency that suits you best and stick to it.
Now, you may be asking what is quality content? Oh boy, we can stay here forever, but to keep this short, anything that can be helpful and enhanced peoples lives or experience is what quality is all about. Do not refrain yourself to just writing “text” posts. You can make use of all content creation methods such as Videos, Infographics, Videographics, Images or a combination of all. You can even be a great content curator, if you know how to do it properly, and having a hard time to self-create content. Read the “Quality Guidelines” as suggested above and you will know what it takes to have a quality website.
Code
This is nothing more than the language that you use to generate “signals” for search engines bots. Content creation is geared for your readers, visitors and users in general, while the “code” is the part where you optimize your site and content for search engines. This is where you put in practice the proper use of words (known as keywords) in your title and description. Proper use of words here means that you are using the most relevant keywords that best describe your site or a specific posts. Words are important for your SEO campaign and while it is not “everything”, it is a very important piece of the puzzle. On a later stage (hopefully next week), I will provide the best SEO tools (and best SEO plugins), that you can use to assist you in optimizing your content, among other things. Watch out for that?
And let’s not forget about the theme you are using. For SEO purposes, one of the best recommended platforms is WordPress. Even Matt Cutts recommends it, and for a good reason. Why? Because according to Matt Cutts, WordPress takes care of about 70% of the technical issues required for your SEO. The remainder, or 30% of on-page SEO can be complimented by using the best SEO plugins and whenever possible using WordPress SEO optimized themes. Don’t get fooled by the later. There are many that will say that their themes are SEO optimized. Do some research first just to make sure. The only two SEO optimized themes that I know of, because I use them, are Thesis and Genesis (aff links). You should give them a try :) .
Site Architecture
Also known as usability, site navigation, etc.. Having quality and optimized content is great, but your site should also provide the best of user experience and accessibility for search engine bots. Page speed, Link structure (broken links are bad) and easily allowing for search bots to crawl your site are all but important ingredients to wrap up your on-page SEO. In addition, you may want to seriously consider setting up the authorship markup on your site, as this is one way of Google knowing about you as the author. Excellent way to “prove” that you are the original creator of a certain piece of content, while providing exposure, building credibility and trust.
The guides above, my SEO Tips, along with the great information out there, should give you an idea of how and what you need to do to accomplish this objective. Take page speed for example. If you are on WordPress, reading how to make your WordPress site load faster will provide you with a step by step instruction on how to achieve this.

Off-Page SEO Ranking Factors and Important Elements

Once upon a time, the only critical element to off-page SEO was basically link building. Essentially the more quality links you can amass and point to your site, all the better. This was achieved in many ways, including but not limited to link exchanges (include wheels), article marketing (so, so), directory submissions, etc. These were effective back then, but as the game changes, search engines are now giving more and more importance to “quality and natural inbound links” and other external SEO factors, such as social engagement, trust factor of a website, etc.. These are the ones that we essentially do not control and have to rely on users, other publishers, to help us build credibility and trust. Hence, why it is now very important to have great content, build relationships and engage actively on the social sphere.

Best Off-Page SEO Practices For…

Links or Link Building
As I mentioned above, inbound links are still very important, the only difference being that search engines now favor “quality” over “quantity”. The more natural, trusted and authority sites links to you (domain level), the better. This is why it is equally important to monitor and track backlinks. In addition, inbound links are further strengthen with the use “again” of proper words, also known as anchor text. The more relevant your anchor texts are, the greater you chances of ranking well for that particular term. If you do find a link pointing to your site that you feel does not have a proper anchor text, politely ask the webmaster to change it, if they can. If you have “other” sites where you can control the links and anchor text, remember to use relevancy, over “spammy” like keywords.
high quality sitesOther ways of how to get backlinks and traffic generation techniques exists and a bit of research can help. However, not all methods are considered “white hat” or ethical, and with “Google Panda” continuing on its path on “removing” useless stuff from their index, you want to make sure that you are doing the acceptable thing. One great form of link building is via guest posting. Start with this list of awesome sites that you can submit your guest post for consideration.
On a side note, here are some articles that you may want to consider reading
Social Web
Ahh! The social sphere. What is there to say about it? A lot actually, but let’s focus on SEO and how the social web can help your site rank better. Basically it all boils down to your online reputation, the trust and authority of the people who share your content, the amount of “votes” you obtain from influential people to your content, and the level of engagement and interaction you perform on the major networks. Search engines are now heavily looking at you and your content on social networks. It is believed that the more trusted and authoritative people share your content, the more your content could be considered of high quality and value. At least that is what is perceived.
I won’t put too much details as to what you should and should do on social networks. The important part is that you know that they are now important and you should not ignore being a part of the major ones, such as FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter and now Google+. I don’t want to seem pushy, but I really encourage you to be a part of Google+ and also build your Google+ page, if you have not done so already. Results from Google, specially when a user is logged in any Google account, are now showing relevant results from your circles first, before anything else. Here’s a great and free guide (PDF) on everything you need to know about Google+ (excellent).
There you have it. These are the best SEO practices that you should seriously consider for your SEO campaign. The above are all part of a “big” pie and while some factors are indeed more important than others, do remember that there is not one single factor that guarantees you top rankings.

Worst SEO Practices For 2012

Yep! There are also SEO techniques that you should avoid. While some may give you a sort of instant boost in your rankings, they will, in due time, not only hurt your rankings but may cause other unexpected negative impact on a lot of things. Your reputation, brand, among other things that are at risk. So think again and avoid, copying content, posting shallow or useless articles, excessive use of repetitive words (stuffing), link cloaking, bad redirections, any attempt to falsely manipulate PageRank, and yep, paid and spammy links. All these are frowned upon and is bad for user experience.
Stay on the right path. Avoid shortcuts as they may only result with your sites demise and whenever possible, be sure that you are in compliance with Google’s Webmaster Guidelines and Bing’s webmaster tools.
And finally…

Make Money With Adsense Keywords and Blogger

If you are new to blogging with Blogger (Blogspot) and wondering how to make money with Adsense this article is for you. If you have Google Adsense on your blog but are disappointed with the revenue generated so far then read on. Even if Google Adsense is performing well for you I am going to give you some tips that will mean you will earn extra money from Google Adsense.

Why Are Keywords So Important for Bloggers?
In order to make money from blogging with Blogger it is important first to understand the significance of keywords and keyword phrases. Via Google Adwords, the sister of Google Adsense, advertisers bid for keywords and keyword phrases. The more frequently these keyword terms are searched for the higher their value. That is why keyword phrases like make money or make money online which receive a huge number of monthly searches are top paying keywords and are worth so much to advertisers.

To make money with Google Adsense all you need do once your blog is receiving traffic is sign up with Google Adsense, receive a unique code and then place Google Adsense ads on your Blogger blog. These ad units are targeted automatically based on the keywords and keyword phrases which appear in the content of your posts. You get paid for every click on one of your Google Adsense ads. The amount you get paid is determined by the value of the keyword or keyword phrases used.

As a webpublisher it is important to be mindful when crafting your content that you use Google keywords and keyword phrases relevant to your blog's content. This does not mean that you stuff your posts with Google keywords to generate higher Google Adsense payments. In fact having too many keywords is known as keyword stuffing and could mean your blog is penalized by Google. A good rule of thumb is to have 3-5% of your content made up of your blog's keywords. A keyword density over 7% is too high and risks penalty.

For help with adding Google Adsense ad units to your Blogger blog please refer to my article Blogger Guide to Google Adsense Placement

Find The Best Google Keywords for Your Blog
These days many bloggers wanting to make money with Adsense build their blogs based on Google keywords. Their plan is to achieve first page positions on Google search pages for each of these keywords and keyword phrases. However, adopting this strategy from the outset would not be the case for most bloggers. Most of us start a blog about something we are interested in and then decide that we would like to make money with Google Adsense.

If Google keywords for your blog is not something that you have paid much attention to up to now then you may be surprised at what a difference it will make to your Google Adsense earnings and SERPs (search engine results page). Just by figuring out your keywords and emphasizing them in your blog posts you can expect to earn extra money with Google Adsense and Blogger. I did an exercise recently where I edited one of my earlier posts and added about 10 more keywords to the content. Not only did I move my article from about 60 in Google searches to 10 the revenue earned from Adsense for this article increased markedly too.

To determine what your keywords are for your blog you will need to conduct some research. Go to Google Adwords Keyword Tool and type in the topic of your blog. For instance if your blog is about making money online you would type in this phrase to receive other keywords that are related to your blog topic.

Try to identify about 10 to 15 Google keywords and keyword phrases that fit with your blog content. Print out this list and keep it handy so you can refer to it often when writing content for your blog.

Write an article around each of these Google keywords or keyword phrases. These 10 to 15 articles will become the backbone content of your blog. Research these articles by performing Google searches and reading what other bloggers who make it to the first couple of pages in the search engine results are writing about. Notice their keywords and keyword phrases, and the tags they have used. This research will help you identify two things:

  • Any gaps not so well covered by fellow bloggers but relating well to your keywords. That will give you a nice opportunity to write a series of articles on the topic
  • How other bloggers in your niche are tailoring their content for success and which keywords are performing well for them

Always write original content. Never copy another bloggers material. Despite being unethical to plagarize duplicated material is easy to identify and can mean that you get penalized by search engines like Google and run the risk of being banned from Google Adsense. My take on what is known as blog scraping is that if you need to copy what some else has written clearly you don't understand your blog topic well enough and you are probably better to write about something you do know something about. Your readers will see through you very quickly if you don't fully understand the depths of your blog topic.

Google Adsense Tips for Blogspot Bloggers (Blogger Bloggers)

  • Add Your Main Keyword to Your Title Tag
Make sure that your main keyword for each of your 10-15 articles forms part of your title tag as this is important if your article is to rank highly in search engine results. If you can use two keywords or keyword phrases all the better. You will note that I have added three keywords in my title: make money, Google Adsense and Blogger.
  • Use the Main Keyword in the Body of Your Posts
Make sure you use the main keyword throughout the body of your article. Ensure that your main keyword appears in the first and last paragraph of your post. There are keyword density tools available to help you check the ratio of keywords used.
  • Make Sure You Tag Your Main Keyword
Tagging your main keyword and other keywords and keyword phrases is also important if readers are to find your article. Your posts will do better in search engine results if they are appropriately tagged. And of course the better your blog is search engine optimized the more traffic your blog will receive and the greater the potential for Google Adsense revenue.
  • Make Sure Your Blog is Search Engine Optimized
Optimize your Blogger blog by adjusting your title tags and adding meta tags for better SEO. SEO is important as it generates search engine traffic and building traffic is paramount for high earnings from Google Adsense.
  • Develop Backlinks for Your Blog
Some of the factors that determine how high your articles will appear in search engine results are backlinks and the age of your blog. If you have some good backlinks to highly ranked websites your blog articles are likely to be promoted in search engine results. Use blog directories, forums, and comment on other blogs in your niche to build a good range of backlinks. Submit your best articles to article directories to generate traffic and links. Also submitting your article to social bookmarking sites like Digg and StumbleUpon can provide backlinks and boost traffic at the same time
  • Give Your Old Blogger Posts a Keyword Makeover
Go back through your previous blog posts and identify posts that are not receiving a lot of traffic. Read through them and look for opportunities to rewrite small portions of the content to insert keywords and keyword phrases. Check the tags too and add any keywords and keyword phrases that may help to boost traffic. Identify any posts that need to be rewritten from a slightly different angle and with more scope for the addition of keywords
  • Publish Posts at Least 250-300 Words Long
Check the number of your articles Google has indexed. Shorter articles can often be missed out particularly if your blog is only recently created. Plus shorter articles do not give enough scope for Google Adsense to necessarily know what keywords to target when serving ads.
  • Optimize Google Adsense Placement, Size and Appearance
Some locations for Google Adsense work better than others. Make sure you read up on Google Adsense placement as this will ensure you make the most money from your Adsense ads.

Some Adsense ad unit sizes are better performers than others. My personal favorite is 336x280 ad unit which I use successfully on most of my blogs.

Consider the appearance of your Adsense ad unit. Blend it in or make it stand out the choice is yours.

In today's article I have discussed how to make money with Google Adsense and Blogger. I have paid close attention to the use of keywords and keyword phrases in your content as these are the basis for the ads served up by Google. 10 Tips to Build Traffic for Blogspot Blogger Blog

Once you've started employing these SEO (search engine optimization) techniques and tips you are going to want to measure your blog's progress. Two important tools that measure the popularity of websites are Google Page Ranking and Alexa Ranking.

Improve the Google Page Ranking of Your Blogger Blogspot Blog
Google Page Ranking is a tool which ranks websites listed in the Google search engine. Websites are ranked on a scale of 0-10 with 0 being the lowest possible score for a site and 10 the highest. The higher the page ranking of your site, the greater the amount of traffic it receives in comparison to other sites. Check your Google Page Rank.

Google uses a complex formula to rank websites which I am not going to cover here. However there are some basic tips about Google Page Ranking that are useful for any Blogger webmaster to know.
  1. Make sure your posts are keyword rich.
Google expects good usage of keywords so make sure your Blogger blog posts have a density of 3-5%. Keyword density is calculated by the number of keywords divided by the number of total words on a page. If your blog article is 500 words long and has 10 keywords it has a keyword density of 2%. A keyword density of anywhere between 2% and 7% is considered an acceptable range by Google. Anything percentage higher than 7% may well be regarded as keyword stuffing and your blog is likely to be penalized. You can check the keyword density using tools like

  2. Post to your blog frequently
Make sure you post frequently as Google prefers fresh pages and does not like out of date sites

  3. Create internal links
Link to previous articles you have written. If you have not cross linked as you posted it is probably worth going back and doing this even if it is a bit arduous.

  4. Build external links to other sites on an ongoing basis
Build links on a regular basis by commenting on other related blogs and in forums. Add social bookmarking buttons to your blog to encourage readers to bookmark and share your articles. Be aware though that many sites such as Reddit, Digg and del.icio.us implement the link attribute rel="nofollow" which will not boost your ranking.

Ensure your blog is properly indexed by major search engines. List your blog in blog directories. Watch out for blog directories though as some require you to put a link on your blog but do not reciprocate with a link. See my article on getting listed in blog directories for further help.

It is worthwhile to link to other blogs you may own as well but doing this will not boost your page ranking particularly. Google is weighted to give a higher ranking to links from other high ranking blogs especially if they are relevant to the content of your blog. The higher the ranking of the site externally linking to yours the better. So essentially you can't just create a bunch of blogs and link to them with the expectation that your Google Page Rank will miraculously increase overnight. Far better to spend your time concentrating on creating a small group of links to quality sites with a high Google Page Rank than going all over the net creating links to low ranking sites.
  5. Another aspect to consider when building quality external links is to ensure that your keywords and phrases appear in links which point to your site. Google analyzes these links so have the linking text contain your keywords to get the most out of them.

Check the Ranking of Your Blogger Blogspot Blog in Alexa
Alexa.com is a website that measures the traffic levels of websites. An Alexa rank is measured according to the amount of users visiting your website with the Alexa toolbar installed and takes into account page views, number of users and three months of historical data.

The Alexa rank is measured according to the amount of users who’ve visited a website with the Alexa toolbar installed. This is kind of an odd way to measure traffic but that is how it works. However it is a well established measure of the value of your site against others so it is useful to see how highly your blog is rated in Alexa. Provided your blog has been around a month or two you can check out how your blog is ranked by visiting Alexa's site info page

If you want your Blogger Blogspot blog to improve its Google Page Ranking concentrate on building quality external links. Google likes it when your site is getting linked to by other sites. The more the content is related the better. In this article I have given you some pointers about how to boost the Google Page Ranking of your Blogger Blogspot blog. If you have time let me know how you get on. Particularly how quickly you got off the Google Page Rank of 1 and how you did it. I'm sure other readers would be interested too.

How To Increase PageRank

Do you want to increase your pagerank? Do you want to know how you can increase your pagerank? Increasing your pagerank is much easier than understanding its algorithm, my friend. Read on, I will explain it in the simplest way I can.

As an introduction (just in case), pagerank represents the importance of a website in the vast internet, where a higher pagerank means better importance. Pagerank, which are scaled from 0 to 10, becomes interesting when involves traffic, those with more ranks will win more traffic from search engines.

Before starting, you should know that pagerank is updated once in 3 months. Therefore, you should not expect any changes soon after you start working on it. Meanwhile, you can try to know it first (What is PageRank), then try understand a bit of its pattern (Algorithm of PageRank).

I know you are too busy for that, so in summary of its algorithm, dofollow inbound links (backlinks) are the most critical aspect in determining your pagerank. Dofollow means that your link will be crawled by the bots / spiders of search engines, nofollow is the contrary, and both are set using anchor text attributes. Also, more ‘important’ (high ranked) website votes more. If all your pages are linked (dofollow) each other perfectly, you already get a pagerank of 1. Those are the main points.

So, here are some methods that can build your pagerank, starting from the free ones:

1. Internal DoFollow Linking

Good dofollow linking (internal site navigation) inside your website will be helpful in increasing your pagerank, though it can only reach a pagerank of 1 without external links. It can be easily done using an archive link / widget that is located in your sidebar, or a sitemap. It will render all your posts / pages connected each other handsomely, since your sidebar / sitemap goes to all your posts / pages.

2. Natural DoFollow Linking

When bloggers write something, they usually put some external links as an additional information for their readers. The links inside posts are usually dofollow, unless the bloggers specifically and manually defines nofollow attributes.

Here is how you can apply it: first you need to write good contents. If then people read and get impressed, there is a good chance that they will put your links in their own website / articles without asked (as additional resources). It gains you more dofollow inbound links, gives you more votes, and you grows your pagerank.

More great (not just good) contents means more chance of getting natural dofollow backlinks.

3. Blog Carnivals

Blog carnivals are blog posts containing submitted links of articles in a certain topics. BlogCarnival.com is a gateway for writers / bloggers and carnival hosts to interact. Writers submit their articles to the hosts through the website. Afterward, the hosts choose the articles they like and provide the links inside the carnivals, which are located on the hosts' websites.

Carnival hosts usually give dofollow links, because it is too much work to add nofollow attributes to each of the links, especially when there are lots of submission. If your articles are accepted, your dofollow backlinks increase in number. The hosts vote for your pagerank, so it shall rises.

4. DoFollow Link Exchange

Link exchange between sites / blogs is a common thing in the blogosphere / internet. If you have some friends that have websites or blogs, you can ask for dofollow link exchanges. When you can get more of this exchanges, you will earn more votes. Thus your pagerank will increase, very simple.

Getting some dofollow link exchanges with quality sites (higher ranked and relevant) are even better.

5. DoFollow Reviews

Asking bloggers to write reviews / advertorial about your site (with your dofollow backlinks inside them) will also help building your pagerank. Some reviewing services gives you dofollow links by default, while in some others, you need to manually state that you require dofollow links in the reviews.

You will need to spend some funds for this method, which is best for products and services.

6. DoFollow Text Link Ads

There are alot of websites that provide services in text link ads. Some of them provide dofollow text link ads, which can help you in bulding your pagerank. These type of ads will make the websites (where they are located) vote for your site and increase your pagerank.

Text link ads are usually not free.

Discussion and Questions - Answers:

1. How high can my pagerank grow?

Common bloggers /online business persons can reach 2-5 of pagerank with some efforts. Super successful and famous bloggers (like Darren Rowse of Problogger.net and Brian Clark of Copyblogger.com) can get 6-7 in scale. Social medias, like Twitter and Facebook, can obtain 8-9 in pagerank. Search engines, like Yahoo and Google, can get the ultimate 9-10.

If a blogger wants a pagerank of 8, he's dreaming.

2. Can leaving comments in other blogs / websites increase my pagerank?

Only if the blogs are dofollow, which means they allow search engine bots/ spiders to crawl your links inside the comments sections. Most blogs in the net are nofollow in their comments section to avoid abuse and spam. Leaving comments will increase your link popularity, but not pagerank. You need dofollow backlinks to increase your pagerank.

3. Can social medias increase my pagerank?

No, they cannot. All social medias automatically add nofollow attributes to all links inside them. Same with commenting, it will gain your link popularity but not pagerank.

4. Black Hat pagerank building may work, why don't you mention it here?

Search engines actively fight black hat pagerank building (like keywords spamming, hidden link, etc), because they want to ensure that high ranked sites are really valuable to online society, not just because they can hack things using their techie knowledge.

It's like getting money, you can get money from providing satisfying services to others, or by robbing or stealing from others. Both give you money, just which methods you want to use. Natural and black hat methods can increase pagerank, your purpose defines which one you will choose.

Besides, using black hat methods can result in ban or penalty from search engines.

Note: If you want to know how I earned a PR 5 on my new blog, I've written my unique custom methods here: How to Increase Pagerank.

OK, that’s all folks. Feel free to try and don't hesitate to let me know if I missed something.

Cloaking

While we gave SEO service to the website we have to intellect many aspects. In Black SEO Cloaking deals a major part. Cloaking is to obtain better search engine rankings. Through cloaking, websites can differentiate between Search Engine Spider and normal internet user. After this differentiation, deliver different kinds of content to both. To build such a page you need to add a lot of keywords and links to that page and try to optimize it for top rankings, If the spider or bot comes to crawl your server you can show that page but remember most Search Engines will cache a snapshot of your site and this will be displayed if users click on the cache link in the search results. As a rule, the cloaking software creates hundreds of web pages that are optimized for special key words so that the spiders get the intuition that the website contains a lot of relevant information about a special topic.

Mosaic cloaking
Traditional cloaking provides completely different content to Search engine and normal internet user. But mosaic cloaking works only as a part of WebPages. Whenever Search Engine Spider sends a request for a page of the website, server replace all "full stops (.)" with keyword rich content through server side scripting, and other pages of the website remain unchanged. From this technique, search engine indexes a content rich webpage and gives advantage to it. Through this method, we can get some short term results until search engine caught the site as black hat spammer.

Google has a clear statement about cloaking on its webmaster pages: "Don't deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, which is commonly referred to as cloaking."

Cloaking detector:

The cloaking detector simulates the Googlebot based on User-Agent to detect cloaked content. So you can detect websites on which the content presented to the web crawler is different from that presented to the user.

Google is Redirecting to accounts.youtube.com when I log out from Google Account.

A sample URL that generate while logging out is:
http://accounts.youtube.com/accounts/Logout2?ilo=1&ils=s.youtube&ilc=1&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F&zx=-xxxxxxx

I just notice it today due to some problem in my home Internet connection. Due to slow Internet speed, while signing out, I noticed that Google was redirecting to first Google.co.in then accounts.youtube.com.

A thread for this issue has been raised in the Google Help forum for Gmail:
google redirects to youtube upon log out

Across the world this will create a problem in many users' PC who are using Google account services through office network. As, video websites like Youtube and many social networking sites like Orkut and Facebook are in the blocked list of Office Firewall Software. If a user is redirected to http://accounts.youtube.com/, the firewall will stop the further redirects and Signing Out might not work properly.

Till the time of posting non from the Google Employee or Moderator of the forum has replied to the issue raised in the above forum.

Update: Google top contributor TITO DUTTA referred to another thread http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?hl=en&tid=6f8a66404ae30d1d, where Sarah, a Google Employee replied with the possible solution

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the confusion. When you sign out of your Google Account, we want to make sure we sign you out of all your Google services. We are now checking to make sure you get signed out of YouTube.

Your domain admin can whitelist accounts.youtube.com, which will stop you from seeing the error while allowing your network to continue blocking videos.

Best,
Sarah
