Have You Got A Keyword Strategy

Posted on 10:06 PM by Unknown

There is a lot of discussion when it comes to keywords, but there does need to be a keyword strategy involved. One of the most important factors that you need to think about is that of relevance. You need to think like your customer and to literally enter their minds in order to determine what phrases they would enter in order to find your product or service.

Suppose that you are selling software. For many software companies they are selling solutions to their customer base. But customers do not buy solutions, they buy software. Can you see the difference?

Another example is that of say a copywriter. These provide copy for other businesses, but what would be a suitable keyword or phrase for them? Most might think it would be something that contains that word copywriting, but this is not exactly true. You see people are not looking for copywriting they are looking for something specific that needs to be written and it needs to be written by someone. People are actually looking for say “website copywriter” or “IT copywriter” or “sales brochure copywriter”. Getting in to the minds of your prospects can make a huge difference to your bottom line.

Remember, do not focus on what you are selling but focus on how people buy.

Keyword research can be a time consuming process and if not done properly you could be chasing keywords or phrases that you will never end up ranking for or you are selecting terms that will take you years to rank for, and then there are still no guarantees that your listing will even appear on page 1 on Google.

What you want to do is to break down you main keyword and to look for alternatives, that are still related, but have less competition. This will allow you to obtain some very “quick wins” and therefore to obtain some much needed business sooner rather than later. So you need to look for those keywords or phrases where the competition is not too high, but where you will still obtain some much valuable traffic.

Such a search engine optimisation Manchester strategy will generally allow you to see results within a three month period. The less focused keywords can take over a year to start seeing results, but even those these terms generate high traffic volume, the conversion for these terms is generally very low.

To get these long tail terms phrases in Google within three months is excellent because every time a person clicks on your link, you will never have to pay any money which is not the case when using pay-per-click. Once you have developed your keywords that you wish to optimise for you then you need to have these within your pages, but not too much and you should avoid having a percentage within the text, always write generally and make sure that anything you do write is readable.

To determine if your content can be read you can always use the Flesch reading ease test. This is a feature that is available in Microsoft Word and you are aiming to have a score between 60 and 70. The higher the number, maximum 100, the easier your document is to read.
